The supported project titled “Secure Housing for the New Clients of the From Streets
to Homes Association” has officially begun. Thanks to the support of the Budapest Social
Public Foundation, within the framework of the FSZA 2025 project, two more people
experiencing homelessness will soon be able to move into municipal rental apartments
owned by the Municipality of Kőbánya.
The From Streets to Homes Association’s project “Secure Housing for the New Clients of the
From Streets to Homes Association” supports some of the most vulnerable members of
society by providing long-term affordable, secure and adequate housing. Based on the
Housing First approach, the project uniquely aims to reduce the number of people
experiencing homelessness in public spaces. Unlike the institutional homeless care system,
it provides independent housing for those affected.
Within the project, the Association is renovating two apartments owned by the Municipality of
Kőbánya with the help of volunteers, in exchange for receiving tenant designation rights for
the properties. At the same time as the renovations, the selection of tenants will take place
and intensive social work will begin. In addition to individual case management, future
tenants will also participate in so-called move-in group sessions, where our peer experts
support them in adapting to their new homes, managing practical and administrativ
housing-related tasks, and building community life.
Since its foundation, the From Streets to Homes Association has renovated
more than 30 municipal apartments, enabling more than 60 formerly homeless people to
move into social rental housing. The success of the programme is demonstrated by the fact
that more than 90% of tenants have been able to maintain their housing in the long
term, successfully leaving homelessness behind.
The current project is supported with more than 23 million HUF by the Budapest Social
Public Foundation within the framework of the Budapest Solidarity Fund 2025 grant
programme. The full budget of the project is covered by private and corporate donations
to the From Streets to Homes Association.
