Inclusion and Autonomy
Project title: INCLUSION AND AUTONOMY – Comprehensive support for the social integration of third-country nationals
This project focuses on providing personalised support to third-country nationals legally residing in Hungary, including but not limited to individuals with refugee, subsidiary protection, or temporary protection status. Taking into account the individual needs of participants, we apply a holistic approach that combines individual, group, and community-based forms of support.
Our activities aim to support the social integration of participants, promote their autonomy and independence, and increase the awareness and openness of the host society.
The project is implemented through the cooperation of the Menedék – Hungarian Association for Migrants and the From Streets to Homes Association (ULE) in Budapest and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County.
Project duration: 01 January 2025 – 31 December 2026
Project leaders (Menedék Association): Petra Bálint, Boglárka Budai
Project coordinator (ULE): Balázs Krivácsy
Funding authority: Managing Authority for Home Affairs Funds
Main activities of the project
Out of the four main activities of the project, ULE is responsible for supporting the housing of participants. The aim of this component is to help individuals find appropriate housing solutions tailored to their needs.
We primarily support clients through housing assistance, which may be complemented by subsistence support where needed. As in all of ULE’s housing programs, this is combined with personalised social work adapted to individual needs.
A key objective of social work is to ensure that participants are able to maintain their housing even after leaving the program, while also promoting their broader social integration. During the process, we assist clients in navigating administrative systems, accessing services, maintaining contact with institutions, and improving their labour market integration.
Within the housing component, in line with the project call, participants must be third-country nationals legally residing in Hungary who either:
benefit from international or temporary protection and have obtained this status within the past 36 months, or
reside in Hungary under another legal status and have arrived in the country within the past 12 months
Our partner, the Menedék Association, additionally supports participants’ labour market integration, development of civic and intercultural competences, and the school integration of children.
Expected results
During the implementation of the project, approximately 2,300 individuals are expected to receive personalised support.
Within the housing component, 50 households will participate. Beneficiaries will gain access to stable and sustainable housing, improved labour market opportunities, and better access to education, while strengthening their connections to the host society.
Through housing support and labour market integration services, we aim to improve participants’ financial and social security. Community programs and intercultural competence development are expected to strengthen social cohesion, reduce isolation, and lower the risk of radicalisation.
