1. “Does one person’s 1% really matter?”
Yes.
Many people think that a single 1% tax donation is too little to create meaningful change. Yet last year, the average donation received by our Association through tax donations was around 10,000 HUF. That amount is already enough to provide one week of personalised social work support for one of our clients.
And that is exactly how community support works: many small contributions together become a real lifeline.
2. “But does this cost me anything?”
No.
Donating 1% of your income tax is not an extra expense and not a donation from your own pocket. You simply decide where 1% of your already-paid personal income tax should go.
If you do not make a declaration, the amount remains in the state budget, and there is no guarantee that it will support civil organisations or social causes.
With a single declaration, however, you can decide that your tax contribution directly helps people secure housing and rebuild their lives.
3. “What does the From Streets to Homes Association spend the 1% donations on?”
Last year, we received 23 million HUF through 1% tax donations. This amount allows us to fully renovate two apartments that can provide safe homes for people and families moving out of homelessness.
This year, with your support, we hope to renovate at least three apartments.
The 1% donation is therefore not just “theoretical help”: it paints walls, replaces wiring, renovates bathrooms, and creates real homes and real opportunities.
4. “Why is housing so important?”
Because housing is the foundation of a safe life.
Keeping a job, protecting your health, raising children, or handling everyday responsibilities is almost impossible without a stable home. At , we work not only to provide temporary assistance, but to create long-term, dignified housing solutions.

5. “How long can I decide about my 1% donation?”
Until 20 May.
You can submit your 1% tax declaration until the deadline for filing your annual tax return. The process only takes a few minutes, but its impact can last for years in the lives of people whose housing depends on it.
